Lost in Space

October 12, 2018 By Παύλος Παύλου

The popular phrase “lost in space” doesn’t refer only to others, but to me as well.

My own loss does not concern others, but myself first. Indeed, in our era of networking, with the internet playing a catalytic role in our everyday life – and I would dare say the internet has the primary role in young children’s lives – it is obvious that it’s easier to blame others, thinking that’s it’s not our fault but theirs, and that they should pay because I am innocent.

This is in no way true. There may be the impression that “it’s their fault, so they are the ones who are lost, not me”, but it is clear that each one of us is being judged in life by our own attitude and success and not by the attitude and success of others.

It was precisely this loss that Christ wanted to explain, not our good or bad deeds, but he wanted to move us from ignorance to the awareness of the situation, from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge, from the loss to salvation, from the daily life to the eternal one.

The Spring

October 12, 2017 By Παύλος Παύλου

The operation of the spring is known to all of us and exists in hundreds of devices we all use every day.

Its main characteristic is its resistance to the pressures it receives and while it may temporarily get deformed, soon it returns to its original image.

And this deformation may be frightening, but the manufacturer has provided for it so that it can, even at greater stress, maintain its function and come back to its shape, ready for the next strain. Of course, the industrial image of the spring is a creation of the twentieth century, however, the function of the spring is visible in nature and even the tall trees, which can deform under stress of weather, however, retain their suppleness and return when the storm passes.

The same creator has supplied humans with the same ability; to withstand the pressures of everyday circumstances, and when they pass to be restored to their previous state, reinforced by the experience already acquired.

It is obvious that each of us has within the necessary strength for our life and God makes sure that the stress from everyday life and the difficulties we are facing do not exceed the capacity of our strength, but along with the test, creates the outcome so that we can endure. A look at the past of our personal life confirms this.

The Sin of Greed

September 19, 2017 By Παύλος Παύλου

In the modern world, having things and wanting even more, is normal. And that’s healthy, as we use legitimate methods to increase our wealth or glory. The problem starts when what I get, either in fame or in money and material goods, is not something I actually need and probably adds problems to my life instead of solving them.

While I pretend it’s something I need, in fact this need is in my imagination and the satisfaction of this need does not contribute to my happiness but to my misery. So the question to each of us is; how much do I need in order to be happy? And the answer obviously is personal.

Self-sufficiency is the opposite of greed.

To feel comfortable with what I have does not mean I will not get more. The question is in which areas and with what methods this increase will be made. In any case, my personal happiness and my personal joy and peace must not be sacrificed on the altar of any new conquest.

The wealth in my inner world is not only a guarantee of balance and conquest of values, but also a way to manage my everyday life simpler and safer.

The Candle, the Oil Lamp and the Telescope

September 15, 2017 By Παύλος Παύλου

The oil lamp and the candle have been for thousands of years the basic lighting fixtures of all human societies.

Today, with the use of electricity, we have changed our experiences and the light of an oil lamp or a candle seems to be not just inadequate, but utopia, thinking that one can cope with modern life using only oil lamps or candles.

And while this is self-evident, when we come to the issues of faith and the search for the living God, we all prefer to use the light provided by an oil lamp and not the light provided by an electric lamp that has the power of hundreds of candles and oil lamps.

In other words, while for our daily routine we look for ever-increasing light fixtures and no one compromises with traditional practice, when we come to searching for God, we prefer traditional means not because they meet our needs but because they do not require personal cost of time, money and responsibility.

And of course the result is proportional. We do not see beyond the distance of everyday life, while the Creator has created us to seek and explore not only the earth and the solutions of our everyday problems, but also the heavens, of today and of tomorrow and beyond the grave.

Arios Pagos 4

May 29, 2017 By Παύλος Παύλου

Η εκπομπή είναι η 4η από 5 συνολικά στη σειρά Supreme Court of Cassation

(Supreme Court of Cassation)

The resurrection of Christ is not a simple thing. It is the most complex, precisely because it is the culmination of our life and nothing can be compared to it, as no other element on earth can be compared in value with our natural life itself. And this is what we all know about our personal experience. This is the content of the Sacred Texts, the Gospels, and all the books of the New Testament.

Everything is written and immortalized for 2,000 years to teach us how to understand the Resurrection, but also the way we have to go to get there.

For that’s when there is meaning in our lives, our daily life, and our future life. This was the reason why apostle Paul raised the issue of the resurrection of Christ to our ancient ancestors in Athens, in order to indicate to them a new way of approaching the presence of the living God by not repeating old forms but by starting a new individual and personal course of life, which may have a starting point, but not a finish line. On the contrary, assimilated to the resurrection of Christ, it is enriched in intensity and content by the presence of God in everyday life, and this results in increasing rather than decreasing, as unfortunately happens in our natural life.
